Maybe it is a App Nap thing?
Try to disable and see if it helps

Disable App Nap System Wide in Mac OS X
defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSAppSleepDisabled -bool YES
Enable App Nap System Wide in Mac OS X
Terminal app, use the following command string and then hit return:
defaults delete NSGlobalDomain NSAppSleepDisabled
