Omnis app server deployment

 Hi Mike,
I have gone to the documentation, and found where it says, Webservice URL is a property used to call Omnis WSDL web services. If its empty, Omnis writes http://127.0.0.1:$serverport to the WSDL files (use empty for local testing).
My interest would be in the last statement of the document where it says, "use empty for local testing". Anything you might want to add? Because the app server is unable to open the library copied over from the web development.

Kind regards, Martin.

Ah, yes, you can’t. So connect to a page from a client on that port and then see if it all works.
Otherwise you have a firewall issue is my first thought.

I think I am lost in the deep end here. I thought you cannot design in a server installation. That the licensing does not allow this. To be clear, when I start the Omnis app server, I see 3 menus: File, Edit and synchronization server. There is no design mode available.

Open a remote form to actually use the port, in design mode on the server.  Then it should show up as in use.

Thanks for the additional info. I have assigned the app server port number to "53666". But still, when I run server, the TCPView does not show the 53666 is in use. Yet I have changed to port in the HTM files to 53666. What could be the issue?

I guess if not in use, then it is free.
Most systems only report on positives, rather than the whole lot.
Of course, if an application is not running, it might use a port that you don’t know yet.  But most ports over 49152 are available.

   - Well-known ports range from 0 through 1023.
   - Registered ports are 1024 to 49151.
   - Dynamic ports (also called private ports) are 49152 to 65535.

Greetings, Mike.

In Windows 10, how to I see all the available free ports to assign to an application? I have installed the TCPView but it only shows me ports that are in use.

Regards,Martin.

Hello Martin,

You can set the port number in the Prefs pane, and by notation.

$root.$prefs.$serverport

Hi Joe,

I'm no expert in port numbering but that "53666" honestly was a guess and it worked. But now the port is not working. It seems like the port assignments keep changing on my windows 10 OS. Also, don't you think if I assign the port to default to 0, then Omnis would automatically assign it to any other available port. Right? Wrong?

Kind regards,Martin Obongita.
