OT: SVN Question

I am trying to download the central SVN copy to my drive.

I am using SnailSVN, I’m on a Mac, Monterey

I am using the command SVN Checkout

It starts to download but then the folder gets locked, so it stops

It tells me I can clear this with SVN Cleanup, which works, I can then do an Update on that folder and it continues to download, apparently all the way until finish if I unlock it all the times that it locks.

Why is it locking?  Is it Apple’s OS that does it because the folder is being bombarded?

Or is it something else?
