I think the MDI interface (multiple document in one window with grey space behind it) is a relic of old windows. …. and I see Andy’s comments
There is an enhancement request ST/HI/1882 from July 2019 for an SDI interface on windows to make it operate like a mac. The status on the enhancement request is that nothing has changed since then.
