I have used the Mac's built-in speech recognition to enter speech into a field.
You can turn it on under System Prefs: Keyboard: Dictation and select what shortcut to use to turn it on. While in the field, hit the shortcut and start talking. Works pretty well within the context of speech it can recognize. Someone's name can always be a problem.
Have only used it for entry. Under System Prefs: Accessibility, you can use speech to control other things, but I've not tried it yet.
