iMac Bit The Dust - New Mac Mini?

Good evening, all,

I wanted to follow up with what I did for my remote access solution.

I went with the NuoRDS solution I talked about below. It was $49.00 and does exactly what I was looking for. I setup the Mac Mini M1, parked it on top of my Windows computer and I can now access it any time with the standard Windows RDP Client. Simple and efficient.

Ran into two issues that were easily solved in my situation.

1.) I was seeing graphic artifacts trailing the mouse cursor after I first set it up. Found out that many computers turn off the GPU when no monitor is connected. I purchased a $8 HDMI Monitor emulator dongle and plugged it into the HDMI port on the Mini. Problem solved.

2.) I was not getting any sound through the system. Some more research and I found that Apple has dropped support for sound redirection in the newest OS. This was going to be a big issue for me as part of the testing I do does involve sound and message retrieval. But then I had an idea that I really thought was a shot in the dark... I took a 3.5 mm audio cable an plugged it into the Headphone Jack of the Mini and the other end into the Line In of my Windows machine. Much to my surprise... Perfect.

So, I am happy as a clam with this setup. I can access My home, Office and Mac development systems from anywhere I am and all sharing the same keyboard, mouse, speakers and printers and working the same way with the same RDP client.

If you want to do something similar, I recommend it. By the way, it will also work from Mac to Mac. And in the testing, we did last week this has far better report video performance than others we tested. (VNC, Team Viewer and other remote access solutions.)

After doing many different Google searches, I came across this.

https://www.nuords.com/

I have sent an inquiry to see if it will really do what I want. But they are in Hawaii so will have to wait for a reply.

But looks promising.

They also seem to have a way to allow for multiple uses. Basically, turning the Mac into a Mac RDP Server. If this is the case, it may be something Mac users with DML Files might want to look at. Would eliminate the File Sharing issues on Macs.

You can certainly do it the other way round easily with Windoze RDP on the Mac

I think you may need something like VNC to run it from Windoze:
