Form Fields and Redraw

If you have a patch of fields on a remote form.. and they get fed their data from a button click on the form.. calculations are done and then data is ready for those fields and you put the data into the instance variables those fields are using.. do they redraw automatically.. I noticed in the manual it said to leave the redrawing to the form.. does it know to redraw those fields once the data becomes available.. does it know it’s data changed and then redraws?

I’m used to having to do the redraw myself but those commands are not allowed in forms. 

I ask this before embarking on an interface change that would require that it be smart and redraw.. wanna hear first how it would work if possible.
