Oops..My bad, I just rechecked my notes and found that I have tested the
Linux project using O$10 and not O$817 (which is our current production
version of the application).
My memory is bad :)..I'm sorry for the confusion.
Best Regards,

Hi Phil,
I did my first test with Linux and Omnis 8.1.7 headless server about a year
ago or so and I was able to get the Omnis server running and I was able to
test few jsforms using a new test lib that I created for the purpose of
logging and tracing Omnis startup.
In my test I created a VM and installed ubuntu.19.10 and apache on it. I
found the instruction on
https://github.com/brunobydesign/how-to-install-omnis-headless-on-debian-10
very helpful, although it was for debian and most of it applies for Ubuntu
as well.
I don't recall seeing this error 'floating point exception' when launching
Omnis server. If you are getting it from your application, then that's a
different story.
Since despite the fact that I was able to launch the Omnis headless server
and run some test from a new lib, I failed to run our App on Linux (because
of syntax issues) and that what stopped me from proceeding further with this
journey.
Sorry I don't have much info to share, but at least that confirms to you
that 8.1.7 headless server can run on ubuntu.19.10.
HTH,
Mayada

Subject: O$817 Linux server
Hi,
With the recent conversations about a machine to use for a server, I
decided to revisit Linux and see how hard it is to get that working, its
been many years since I last looked.
Without an omnis dev environment, I was less inclined to use Linux.
I do have an external that I might use, but a workaround for a Linux
command line would overcome that, so thought it might be worth a look again.
So, I created a new VM for the latest Debian, 10.4, installed as a
webserver with Apache using the debian desktop.
I then installed omnis app server...
Linux and apache seemed to work fine out of the box...
But omnis for some reason came back with a 'floating point exception'...
The install seemed to work, the omnisX64 file looks correct but gives
the error...
anyone else played around with this, and found this same error?
and overcame it I guess I'm really asking?
My testing maybe short lived it seems.
or maybe I just need to use a different Linux?
or setup somehow differently?
happy to try other options, what do others use?
