SV: O7:Removing indexes

Hi Grant
As said in answer to Doug there are some indexes that do not make any sense keeping.
We do automatically backups every night and yes I have tested and everything works OK.
One has to reorganize data of course when these kind of changes are done.
As my experience is that just removing indexes, and adding a new one that I find necessary, will result in corrupted data that may or may not be repaired by Omnis Check data.
Therefore I do it in two steps.
Step 1, remove all indexes and reorganize.
Step 2, add the indexes you want to keep and reorganize again.
This way it seems Omnis will not give you any notification of corrupted that has to be repaired.

Find first on Indexed Field

If you don’t have indexed fields, finding a particular record may involve reading all of the records in that file format. If you have a lot of records, you may experience a considerable slowdown in performance.

Personally, I would make a backup of the data file, then remove the indexed fields, then see if everything works OK. If things work OK, and you don’t experience a slowdown in retrieving data, you are good to go. If not, replace the data file from your backup.
