I have 4 different Xcode versions running in parallel, building under 9.4 mostly, IIRC in Xcode 10, in the project settings, switching the build system back to Legacy helped in quite a few situations

me neither, and it's getting a lot worse with the two volumes approach in 10.15, IMHO they've almost completely lost direction and are constantly violating the principles that made them successful in the first place ...
