Bar code reading

hi Wendy.

I’d add to what Jena-marc says —

if you are going to use bar code scanners make sure:
— they are laser based rather than infrared. Laser cost a little more, but they are far more reliable
— they emulate an HID input device — that way… its like keystrokes from the keyboard
— they are programmable so that you can tell it to beep (or not), add a CR (or not) to the scan, etc.

we’ve been using honeywell (as a brand) for scanning bar codes on tickets for years.

you can get them as ‘gun’ style, or surface mount, or overhead on stands.
