Anyone using a check scanner?

Hi Mike,

I'm just starting work with a charity as the treasurer. I originally understood it to be a token position as an additional board member to pad out the board. Now I find there are a lot of expectations of me. The whole accounting side needs a lot of work and I'm just doing whatever I can to advise on streamlining every aspect of it. Check scanning would be very helpful as manual data entry is very time consuming even for a small number. What did you mean about machines that do OCR? You talking about a regular scanner with OCR to read the stuff?

Cheers mate,

Jock

Hello Jock,

Not that I know of here in the UK. Our cheques have a mag strip that is read by a reader for the account details. The beneficiary and amount are obviously written, and we have machines that do OCR and read the paper.

They do this very well really, I've not caught it out yet. It will produce a receipt with an image of the cheques on it as well. So it can be done.

They don't like staples however. :)

Mike
