I don't believe you can do that with an Omnis Toolbar.

I created my own to bypass that issue. I sent you a screenshot off list.

Thank you Michael;

Changing the $backcolor will be a good idea, didn't know that I could access
this property for a toolbar object, I'm using a button object and I couldn't
find the $backcolor in the property manager. I'll try that today.

What I ended up doing last night is adding a timer that will change the
iconid on the toolbar button, but if I could access the backcolor property
that will work better.

Thank you again for sharing your solution, Mayada

You can use a timer to change the color of an object you have designated as
your alert. I think .75 seconds works well and gets people's attention.

Below is what I use in an appointment calendar to alert the user of a new
online appointment coming in. ivBlinkColor can be any of several colors
depending on what type of appointment we are working with. The time simply
cycles the color between white and the blink color.

; Received a timer message.
On evTimer
    Calculate $cinst.$objs.Toolbar.$objs.ApptBox.$backcolor as
pick($cinst.$objs.Toolbar.$objs.ApptBox.$backcolor=ivBlinkColor,ivBlinkColor
,kWhite)

Subject: Messaging Alert support in Studio App

Hi All,

I would like to add a notification/alert support to our app, so when the
current user gets a message or an email, we notify him/her.
The approach I'm taking is once I receive a notification from the server
about the new msg, I install a toolbar, then uninstall once user clicks on
it.

This is working now, but I'm looking for something more fancy ..I'd like to
add something that flashes/ changes color, to be more noticeable to the
user.

Any thoughts about this or anyone have done this before in a nicer approach?

All thoughts are appreciated!

Thank you,
Mayada
