NO - Windows versions

windows 7 looks like the old way — it is comfortable and works well. Things are where you used to expect them to be.

windows 10 — well.. there is a difference between pro and home editions.

home has no remote desktop … the comparisons say it is not as secure as pro (which — gosh forbid, why would microsoft ever want it to be known that they sell a cheaper version of an OS that isn’t as secure — who ever thought up that marketing ploy is out in left field :)

Windows 10 it pretty much forces you to update every time it comes out with a new version or patch. Thats probably good for a user who doesn’t know how to look after things — but if you want to disable it, or virus checking — think twice, because just as you think you’ve disabled either of those…. microsoft turns them back on. So, microsoft, in their wisdom, think they know better than you and don’t let you run without auto-update. and seriously, turning it off, doesn’t turn it OFF. (you have to hack the registry to do that and say you are on a dial up network).

I don’t like the tiles it has enabled— seems like bloatware and so I turn them all off. Things I don’t want.

Search for apps is actually not bad

I don’t like the way it seems to make you go full screen for appst, so I always fight my way back to the old desktop.

its reasonably fast….

and….., if somebody is a consumer user and are asking whether they should be using windows 7 or 10, then I’d say go windows 10. its really not that bad to use.

we use windows 10 for one of our key office apps — and a lot of customers have windows 10, so we get to encounter omnis on them a lot. Windows 10 really is quite stable in my opinion … Our office machine has been on for a couple of months now, non stop, serving up data/web site with a ms-sql database on it — and we really don’t pay attention to it.

which would I get — I’d get windows 10. I’m impressed enough. even if I”m a die-hard- i wish the interface was the old way. Your son will have more people who can help him.

just make sure you don’t underpower the laptop with slow processor

thats my opinion.
