Paul,

IMHO, for 100 concurrent you are better off writing a small studio 6.x (or 8.x) app that feeds into the database. A mix Omnis Studio install base in such cases will still fare much better than what you are proposing.

We built an extension to their existing Omnis-based system using the windows mobile client. So far, they only have a few functions implemented - basic stock lookups, stocktake functions etc. We have an Apache web server, one instance of the Omnis Web Service running, and with about 10 concurrent users it seems to work fairly well.

I’ve found only one that runs Android. HTML5 on these devices is appalling - the CPUs are generally under powered so performance is not great and HTML5 adds a layer of slowness to the whole thing. In this arena, Windows Mobile is the standard.

Apart from the obvious things like familiarity with the dev environment (I have very little experience with Visual Studio), does Visual Studio give you any advantages over Omnis developing for WM6?

I’ve spoken to Vik Shah privately about this and I know his views based on the experiences he had in a similar setup. Has anyone else tried a large scale setup, and how successful/stable was it?
