O$4 - Copy a continer object

Hi Reg,

I actually already have the functionality you describe.

I have a Menu call "Recent Clients". As you use each client they are added
to the Menu as a recent Client and it keeps track of what was open when you
were using that client and even the window positions. So you can go up to
that and switch between them.

Unfortunately we have had a lot of requests for a more visually dynamic
version where they can "See" the different clients they are working with at
the same time and more easily jump between them as they are on the phone,
entering data, etc. I may just have to deal with the "tiled" windows for
now until I can figure out something that will allow what I really want to
do.

The "Subwindow thing" is really not all that difficult. It's just this
pesky issue of the field order that is holding me back.

We support both Omnis Databases and SQL.

Hi MIchael,

What you could do is have a menu or toolbar showing the open client
names. The user could choose a client to switch to, and that client's
windows would automatically appear, and the previous client's open
windows would be automatically hidden (not closed). The disadvantage
would be only being able to see one client at a time, but then maybe you
could devise a way around that. If you can manage with only one
client's windows open at a time, Omnis could do this out of the box with
very little code.

The subwindows thing sounds like it would take a lot of effort to build,
refine and maintain.

How are you managing the database connections?

Cheers,
Reg
