List v. Forum

Agreeing with Doug's point, I want you all in one place, wherever it is - I don't want to have 2+ places to check to see everything.
I don't do much with forums, but I wonder if the folks who crave one would be partially satisfied by viewing the list the way I do, on the monthly archive page -

Each month I update that link to the current year and month. I keep a page open to it all the time. I bring it forward and command-R reload, and the current traffic is at the bottom of the page. Topics are easy to see, the link color tells me which ones I've already seen, and I can read the new things in thread order, no need to go chronologically. You can also use it to confirm that a post made it to the list, a few seconds after sending it.
I subscribe to the digest, so I have everything in offline searchable form too, and I use this link for online searching of the archives -

Using the month's archive page, I don't have to wait for digests to arrive before joining a conversation - but I guess the downside is that when I respond on a topic, I'm starting a new email message, so even though I duplicate the subject, it doesn't carry any thread info in its headers.
My 2 cents, and all the best wishes for the new year,
Kelly
