Performance Win 8 VM accessing oracle on Win 2008 VM

Am going back to a Macbook Pro as my development machine. Windows only
development so I'm using VM Ware virtual machines. I am finding a very
significant performance penalty when accessing my database from a Windows 8
client

Server - Win 2008R2
Database - Oracle 11g

When I run a sqlplus query on a table with 2550 rows I get the following
results

On the server - about 7 seconds
On an XP Virtual Machine to the server - about 7 seconds
On Win 8 Virtual Machine to the server - over 30 seconds

This is also reflected when I do the database access from within our program
but by doing sqlplus I've taken anything omnis related out of the equation.

Very latest MacBook Pro
16GB RAM with 2GB assigned to the Win 8 VM

Any ideas?

Thanks

Jock
