odb does not require Omnis O7 or Studio to run, it just shares the datafile.

Once you have started it you can usually forget it until you do a restart of the computer, even then you can make it autostart at time of computer startup.  

There is no need for the OSX Locking example, I usually just overwrite that with the datafile that I am setting up
