Booking Assets

I want to have a visual booking system where I have a table of dates along the top and various assets down the side and I want the user to be able to drag a rectangle across a series of dates to create a booking for an asset. Once the rectangle has been created a pop up window will then allow editing of further details for the booking. Any rectangle can also be double clicked on to edit the booking.

What component should I use to create such an interface eg Data Grid or Complex grid. Any advise would be welcome on how best to achieve this, what events would you use etc.
