I liked the Linux Weekly News headline "Oracle: SELECT * FROM Sun". As
for what this means for the future of MySQL, considering how many forks
of MySQL there were even before this was announced
<http://capttofu.livejournal.com/17298.html>, the future of the
"official" Sun distribution of MySQL was unclear anyway.

I think it is a sad day for the computer industry. Sun was one of the
more innovative companies in the business and had influence
disproportionate to its size. They never seemed to recover from the
dotbomb collapse.
